For Global Women’s Studies Students
IHUM 243 encourages GWS students to consider how a study of South Asia enriches our perspectives on women’s issues. For example, how do Buddhist, Hindu, and Islamic cultures in South Asia shape perceptions of women and their representation in the Arts?
What can we learn about modern feminism by studying women’s experiences in South Asia as seen through film, visual art, oral performance, and music?
What are the contributions of modern South Asian female artists to the ongoing development of modern feminist thinking?
How should female scholars in the West consider South Asian femininities if they conflict with Western values?
